Pelosi, IIIChairman of Obstetrics & Gynecology at the Bayonne Medical Center in Bayonne, New Jersey, Chairman of Obstetrics & Gynecology of the United States Section of the International College of SurgeonsIn July 1991, Dr. Pelosi III began his internship and residency specialty training in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the New York Downtown Hospital in Manhattan, an affiliate of New York Hospital, Cornell Medical College, under the guidance of chairman Stanley Zinberg and subsequently William Strider. His training included rotations in gynecologic oncology, gynecologic surgery and gynecologic pathology at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center and the New York Hospital, Cornell Medical Center, respectively. During his specialty training, Dr. Pelosi III complemented his formal education by attending numerous courses and conferences in surgical gynecology, urogynecology, obstetrics and minimally invasive surgery in both the United States and Europe. He extended and solidified his skills with extensive laboratory and animal training and by observing experts at work in all areas of surgery. As Chief Resident in Gynecology and Obstetrics, he became the first surgeon to perform single-puncture operative laparoscopy, laparoscopic assisted vaginal hysterectomy, vaginal hysterectomies by morcellation and sacrospinous colpopexies at the New York Downtown Hospital. By the time of his graduation from specialty training in June 1995, Dr. Pelosi III was the driving force behind surgical gynecology and obstetrics at the New York Downtown Hospital, was the foremost surgical consultant on all matters related to minimally invasive gynecologic surgery, had delivered nine presentations at major gynecologic and surgical conferences and had published fourteen articles in major peer-reviewed medical journals.
