Should I install Windows Media Player to view the videos?
The majority of modern PCs running Windows come with pre-installed version of Windows Media Player (WMP), so that you do not have to install anything. The version of the WMP depends on your operating system.
If you would like to install WMP anyway, upgrade the existing version of WMP, or you are running Operating System for Mac, please click on the icon below for a free setup.
Is my credit card transaction secure over SurgeryU's website?
One of the biggest concerns, in this age of electronic commerce, is the safety of credit card information. When you subscribe to our services, your credit card information is transferred via encrypted systems to our payment gateway server, TrustCommerce. As a result, your credit card information cannot be captured or used by anyone outside of Digital Concept without your authorization, and we will never share your personal information with any third parties outside of our services without your consent.
How do SurgeryU's search filters work?
SurgeryU has three search filters in place that allow you to select specific content that is of interest. Please, remember, that you have to choose only ONE filter to proceed. From our Home page, you can view procedures sorted by:
- Doctor - allowing you to view all procedures performed by one of our content providers,
- Procedures - view all versions of a specific procedure performed by our content providers, and
- Diagnoses - view procedures performed based on a specific diagnosis.
How do I select a video to play?
Once you have selected a procedure, you have two options. You can view individual steps of the procedure of interest by clicking on the title of a specific step. You can also choose to view the whole procedure by clicking on the "View the entire procedure" link at the end of the list of indexed steps. After you chose the clip to be viewed, the video will begin playing in the Window's Media Player (WNP) screen found to the left.
How do I view full-screen images of the procedures?
Once a video has been buffered and begins playing on your computer, it can be controlled using Window's Media Player's (WMP) menu options. The following is a list of frequently used controls when viewing procedures. Commands in parentheses are shortcut keystrokes.
- Play - press (control + p).
- Stop - press (control + s).
- Full-screen view - place your cursor on the playing video, press your right mouse button and select "Full Screen" (alt + enter).
- Minimize view - right click on the screen, select "Zoom", then select "50%" (alt + enter).
- Additional Controls - for help with additional WMP features and controls, right click on the viewing screen and select "help" from the dropdown menu.
What is "buffering"?
After you select a video, Window's Media Player (WMP) begins to pull the video from SurgeryU's servers, a process known as buffering. The video is broken down into several small "packets" to increase the speed with which the video is streamed to your computer. Your computer detects the speed of your Internet connection and reassembles the packets to provide you with uninterrupted viewing of the procedure. While buffering is taking place, you will see an animated WMP icon in the middle of the screen indicating that the process is working. Individual buffering times vary depending on the speed of your Internet connection. You can see the progress of the buffering process in the bottom left hand corner of the WMP window (i.e. "Buffering 79%").
What do I do if the video does not begin to play?
If the video you selected does not begin to play after 30 seconds, there are several troubleshooting measures that can be taken. First, look in the bottom left hand corner of the Window's Media Player (WMP) window to check the progress of the buffering process. If you see, for example, "Buffering 79%" and the percentage is continuing to increase, allow extra time for buffering to be completed. Individual buffering times vary depending on the speed of your Internet connection. If you see the message "Connecting to server" and the message does not change, click on the "Stop" or square button and reselect the desired video link. If the message in the bottom left hand corner of the WMP window reads "Opening" and the status of the message does not change after 30 seconds, click on the "Stop" or square button and reselect the desired video link. By reselecting the desired link, SurgeryU's servers resend the video packets, which may have been lost on route to your computer.
The selected video still does not play correctly. What do I do?
Viewing SurgeryU's videos is dependent upon several factors. If, after trying the troubleshooting measures listed above, the video is still not playing, try these remedies:
- Buffering videos can sometimes cause certain browsers to freeze and stop downloading information. If you are unable to access SurgeryU's videos, close and re-launch your browser and return to www.surgeryu.com to view your selected video.
- Update your version of Window's Media Player (WMP). To download the latest version of software, click on the WMP icon in the bottom right hand corner of the screen and follow the steps to install correctly.
- Check your Internet connection by selecting a different page. If the page loads, return to www.surgeryu.com and select a video to be viewed. If the page does not load, check all external Internet connections and re-launch your browser.
- If the video begins to play, as indicated by the moving progress meter, but you have no picture, the Performance settings on your Windows Media Player may be incorrectly set. You may check your settings by opening the Media Player application, selecting Options under the Tools menu and clicking on the Performance tab. Please make sure the Connection speed is set to "Detect my connection speed."
- If you continue to experience difficulties, contact us at info@surgeryu.com.
What Internet connection is best used when viewing SurgeryU's content?
SurgeryU's videos are best viewed with a T1 or better connection. This type of connection is most often found in internal networks such as a hospital's or business' Local Area Network or LAN. If you have access to a network with a T1 connection, we recommend that you view SurgeryU's procedures from a computer installed on this network. Other high-speed Internet connections (i.e. DSL, ADSL, and Cable) are normally sufficient to view SurgeryU's content, however, we recommend accessing our videos through a T1 connection if possible. This will allow for improved buffering speeds and easier viewing of our content.
What operating system can be used to view videos on SurgeryU's web site?
SurgeryU's videos are best played on Win 95, Win 98, Win Me, Win 2000, Win NT, Win XP, Mac OS 9.x and OS X. 11.
What Internet Browser can be used to view videos on SurgeryU's web site?
SurgeryU's videos are best played on Internet Explorer version 5.0+, Netscape 6.0+, and Mozilla 1.0+.
