Scientific Center for Obstetrics, Gynecology and Perinatology

Scientific Center for Obstetrics, Gynecology and Perinatology has been the leading institution in the field in Russia for over 40 years. This center works in close collaboration with the Ministry of Health Care and Social Development and with the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences, and conducts intensive clinical, research and educational activities.

The Center has been working as the collector of the most severe cases from all over Soviet Union and Russia for decades. Clinical departments of the Center comprise 4 obstetrical departments (high risk pregnancy, miscarriage and preterm labor, pathologic pregnancy, high infectious risk pregnancy - 100 beds in total and over 1000 deliveries annually), 4 gynecologic departments (operative gynecology, endocrinology, pediatric gynecology, female reproduction - 170 beds), out-patient department (receiving over 50 000 of patients annually), assisted reproduction department (over 10 000 IVF babies since 1985), 3 neonatal departments (including neonatal surgery, intensive care and low weight neonates) and department of anesthesiology and intensive therapy. Surgical unit includes 5 operating rooms suited for endoscopic, open and vaginal surgery (over 3000 procedures annually).

The Center also possesses 6 laboratories (immunologic, endocrinologic, biochemical, clinical, genetic and pathomorfologic), functional diagnostic unit, radiologic unit including MRI and focused ultrasonic ablation and extracorporeal detoxication unit.

All departments and units are equipped with the most advanced equipment allowing diagnosis and treatment meeting the highest world standards. Doctors and other medical and lab staff are the specialists with outstanding professional skills and experience. Heads of all departments and units are internationally acknowledged experts and highest national authorities bearing the titles of professors and academicians of Russian Academy of Medical Sciences. The national standards of medical care are elaborated and tested in the Center before they are recommended for application in the clinics of Russia.

The Center conducts intensive fundamental scientific and research work in all fields of obstetrics, gynecology, perinatology and reproductive medicine. This work becomes the basis for elaboration of new technologies and diagnostic and treatment options which then further spread into the medical centers in the regions of Russia. The Center also hosts the central Russian journal "Obstetrics and Gynecology."

The Center, which is also the base of several chairs of Moscow medical universities, carries out continuous professional education which is provided through postgraduate programs, thematic seminars, courses and workshops. As the headquarters of the Russian Associations and Societies of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, Gynecologic Endoscopists, Contraception, Menopause, Gestosis, Endometriosis it also holds no less than 4 major events (congresses and conferences) of national and international relevance annually. These events are typically attended by 500-700 professionals from Russia regions. Since 1991, for example, 21 international congresses on new technologies in gynecology and reproductive medicine with advanced endoscopic courses were held. Each of these comprises 3 days of non-stop interactive live surgery performed by international experts This resulted in a "boom-like" introduction of minimally invasive surgical technologies in territories of Russia.
